Iran Determined to Meet Power, Gas Commitments towards Iraq: Veep

TEHRAN (Shana) – First Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri voiced Iran’s determination to live up to its gas and electricity commitments towards neighboring Iraq even in the harsh summer conditions.

According to his website, fvpresident.ir, Jahangiri told a high-profile meeting with an Iraqi delegation on Tuesday evening: "Fortunately, the cooperation between Tehran and Baghdad in various sectors, including oil, gas and electricity, has grown reasonably well and has been largely implemented, but there are still many other areas for the development of bilateral economic relations.”

He said that the prerequisite for the development of economic relations is having banking and financial relations, and called for speeding up implementation of agreements in the field of banking and financial relations.

The Prime Minister of Iraq, Mustafa al-Kadhimi, also said at the meeting: "The new Iraqi government came to power under touch economic and social conditions and the coronavirus pandemic had broken out in the country, but we succeeded with the agreement of all Shiites, Sunnis and Kurds.”
