Zangeneh Complains about “Fake” Oil Purchasers

TEHRAN (Shana) -- Iranian Minister of Petroleum Bijan Zangeneh said there were some people who contacted the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) as oil purchasers only intended to get information about how the company sells and exports crude oil and were “fake” oil customers.

Speaking to reporters following a government cabinet meeting on Wednesday, the official said such “fake” customers wanted to gain access to how NIOC sells crude oil, and were not from any specific countries, IRNA reported.

Zangeneh also described the Supreme Leader’s stance regarding US President Trump’s calls for negotiations between Tehran and Washington, in a meeting with the visiting Japanese premier, as “wise and authoritative”.

Asked about the presence of Russia’s Gazprom in the Iran-Pakistan-India gas pipeline project, he said a memorandum of understanding had been signed with Gazprom regarding the project about 2 years earlier and the company was tasked with ensure the approvals of Pakistan and India which had not been successful so far.

Asked about European customers of Iranian crude oil, he said Europeans had said their governments were not supposed to directly buy oil from Iran and the purchases were supposed to be made by private companies which did not engage in transactions due to US sanctions on Iran.
