Safaei said that the NITC presently owns 69 oil tankers with a capacity of more than 15.5 million tons.
The company is among the largest world oil tanker companies, Safaei said.
All tankers in possession of the NITC have valid international insurance certificates and licenses, carry flags, and are categorized under classes, he said.
The NITC chief also said that the company began in September 1955 with a 35,000-ton tanker.
Emerging economic crises in different periods of Iran's history have persuaded Iranian officials to consider creating an independent oil tanker fleet for the oil-producing country.
