Iran, Siemens Sign Advanced Turbine Technology Transfer Agreement

Tehran, March 2 (Shana) – Iran’s MAPNA Group and Germany’s Siemens company are ready to sign on Wednesday the agreement on transfer of the technology of state-of-the-art Class F turbines to start local production of the equipment in Iran.

The SGT5-4000F agreement will be signed by the managing directors of MAPNA and Siemens in Berlin and in a ceremony to be overseen by Iranian Minister of Energy Hamid Chitchian and the German Vice-Chancellor and Federal Minister of Economic Affairs and Energy Sigmar Gabriel, according to the Iranian firm’s website.

The SGT5-4000F gas turbines are characterized by high performance, low power generating costs, long intervals between inspections and service-friendly design. Optimized flow and cooling add up to the highest gas turbine efficiency levels and the most economical power generation in combined-cycle applications, Siemens website announced. 

MAPNA Group is a conglomerate of Iranian companies involved in development and execution of thermal and renewable power, oil & gas, railway transportation and other industrial projects as well as manufacturing main equipment.

The German company has also been in negotiations over delivery of unblocked gas turbines which were held back due to anti-Iran sanctions.

It released the first cargo of the equipment Iran had ordered for development of South Pars gas field before the sanctions intensified in 2012, an operator in the field said.

Hassan Boveiri, developer of phases 17 and 18 of the supergiant South Pars gas field, told Shana that Siemens has released a cargo of compressors and turbines which will be installed at phases 17, 18 and 12 of the gas field. 

They were blocked in the Port of Jebel Ali in UAE and Netherlands for three years. 

The second consignment of the items will enter Iran within a fortnight which will contain three electro-compressors belonging to phases 17 and 18 and 6 other compressors belonging to phase 12.
