“The flaring in phases 1-10 of South Pars was 56 mcm a week in 2008....Now, it has been reduced to 8 mcm,” Mehdi Yousefi said.
He said that the 86% decline in flaring at South Pars is proof of senior petroleum ministry officials’ attention to this environmental issue.
Yousefi also said that sulfur loading has been mechanized in the past one year.
South Pars, a huge gas reservoir, is jointly operated by Iran and Qatar.
