The platform, weighing about 6,200 metric tons, is among the largest oil processing platforms in Iran. It was installed Monday in the Persian Gulf through the efforts of Iranian engineers, specialists and domestic manufacturers.
The project, which had faced delays because of international sanctions, gained momentum under the current administration with support from the oil minister and the managing director of the National Iranian Oil Company. The platform was fully installed using the complex and specialized float-over method, a technique that enables the placement of large offshore structures without the use of heavy-lift vessels.
The installation is expected to increase the field’s oil production capacity by approximately 35,000 barrels per day. It will also enable the daily injection of 80,000 barrels of water to maintain reservoir pressure and accelerate development plans at one of the Persian Gulf’s key oil fields.
According to project officials, all stages of the platform’s design, engineering, construction and installation were carried out by Iranian experts without foreign assistance, highlighting the domestic capabilities of Iran’s oil industry in executing large-scale offshore projects.
The Reshadat oil field, operated by the Iranian Offshore Oil Company, is located about 90 kilometers from Lavan Island and has been in production since 1969. The commissioning of the P4 platform is expected to open a new chapter in the field’s development and strengthen Iran’s offshore oil production capacity.
