Mostafa Rajabi Mashhadi, who leads the electricity and energy division at Iran’s Energy Ministry, represented the country at the SCO energy ministers’ gathering. He was joined by officials from Iran’s renewable energy agency, the electricity transmission oversight office, the international affairs center, and representatives from the Oil Ministry and Atomic Energy Organization.
Rajabi Mashhadi described organized energy collaboration as a driver for sustainable development, energy security and regional economic growth, stressing Iran’s readiness to deepen engagement.
Citing Iran’s significant oil and gas reserves and production, along with its power grid connections to seven neighbors, he outlined areas for joint work: shared investment, technology transfer, renewable energy expansion, efficiency improvements and smart grid development.
His five specific proposals were:
- Forming an SCO member-state energy consortium
- Expanding regional power grid interconnections
- Establishing a regional electricity market framework
- Cooperative technology development for smart grids
- Hosting an annual SCO electricity conference
Rajabi Mashhadi also condemned recent attacks on Iranian energy infrastructure, noting that such facilities are protected under the Geneva Conventions and UN Security Council resolutions as immune targets.
He closed by thanking Kyrgyzstan’s government for hosting the meeting.
