Powering change through awareness

SHANA (Tehran) – Energy minister said public awareness and education are among the most important tools for improving consumption patterns and called for the use of all available media platforms to promote energy-saving practices.

Speaking at a meeting with senior electricity industry officials on Monday, Energy Minister Abbas Aliabadi said power restrictions and outages should primarily target consumers who exceed approved consumption limits and fail to comply with established usage standards.

He stressed the need to encourage efficient consumers, saying available resources and capacities should be used to support and reward households and businesses that adhere to consumption guidelines.

Referring to the country’s current circumstances, Aliabadi described service delivery in the power sector as a national mission and responsibility. He said the country is operating under wartime conditions and that electricity industry employees should be recognized for their efforts to maintain services. At the same time, he emphasized that negligence and poor performance should not go unaddressed.

Aliabadi said public information campaigns and awareness programs can play an effective role in changing consumption behavior. He noted that when consumers exceed established usage patterns, proper education and communication can help encourage corrective action.

The minister called for the full use of the country’s communication and media capacities, including national broadcasting and other channels, to highlight the importance of energy conservation and strengthen measures aimed at reducing excessive electricity consumption.
