Smart energy use key to sustaining production

SHANA (Tehran) — Efficient energy management is essential to maintaining production and maximizing existing industrial capacity, even in a country with abundant energy resources, the head of the National Petrochemical Company (NPC) said Saturday.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the “Energy Pulse” campaign, NPC Managing Director Hassan Abbaszadeh said that possessing vast oil and gas reserves does not justify wasteful consumption. Instead, he stressed the need for responsible and intelligent resource management to support production and strengthen energy security.

Abbaszadeh said recent attacks that damaged parts of the country’s infrastructure also affected segments of the petrochemical industry. He emphasized the importance of restoring impacted facilities and returning the sector to full production as quickly as possible.

He noted that petrochemical products play a significant role in everyday life, from packaging materials and consumer goods to essential industrial applications, contributing directly to public welfare and economic development.

The deputy oil minister said NPC has prioritized energy-efficiency programs in recent years and has worked to promote a culture of responsible energy consumption. He described the success of the “Energy Pulse” campaign as the result of cooperation between government institutions and the public.

According to Abbaszadeh, raising public awareness is critical to reducing energy waste. He highlighted the complexity of the natural gas supply chain — from offshore extraction and processing to nationwide distribution — and said consumers should recognize the effort required to deliver every cubic meter of gas.

He added that the campaign combines energy conservation with social responsibility initiatives, directing part of the savings toward charitable causes, including support for vulnerable families and the release of prisoners convicted of nonviolent offenses.

Abbaszadeh warned that 2026 could be one of the most challenging years for the country’s energy-intensive industries. However, he said effective consumption management can help sustain production, reduce waste and make better use of available resources.
