Energy reform essential to protecting industrial output

SHANA (Tehran) – President Masoud Pezeshkian warned Sunday that Iran must reform its energy consumption patterns or risk crippling the nation’s manufacturing sector.

During a cabinet meeting, Pezeshkian emphasized that failing to manage electricity, gas, and other energy sources will inevitably force a reduction in industrial capacity. He cautioned that decreased production would lead to lower national income, increased economic pressure, and heightened inflationary risks.

"The current situation facing the country is not routine," Pezeshkian said. "Managing it requires coordination, empathy, and precise, responsible decision-making."

The president noted that Leader Ayatollah Khamenei has already underscored the necessity of energy management. While short-term fixes may suffice for the summer, Pezeshkian called for immediate, forward-looking planning to address energy needs for the coming months, particularly the winter season.

He praised government officials for their commitment during this sensitive period amid ongoing regional conflicts, urging cabinet members to maintain national cohesion and social participation. The president added that the government is also developing contingency strategies to navigate any potential unforeseen developments.
