75 firms join nationwide gas-saving push

SHANA (Tehran) – The head of National Iranian Gas Company said 75 operator companies have signed agreements with provincial gas firms as part of Iran’s broader strategy to optimize natural gas consumption and improve energy efficiency nationwide.

According to the company, CEO Saeid Tavakoli made the remarks during the fifth meeting on natural gas consumption optimization programs, held via videoconference with senior managers from provincial gas companies, refineries and operational regions.

Tavakoli stressed the need to continue implementing gas consumption management programs, saying targeted and sustained optimization projects remain a key pillar of Iran’s energy management strategy and that current measures are progressing favorably.

He highlighted ongoing projects in areas including boiler room optimization, replacement of high-consumption heaters and energy management in greenhouses, poultry farms and other high-use facilities. He said the measures have played an effective role in controlling gas consumption and improving the efficient use of the country’s energy resources.

Tavakoli added that consumption reduction targets have been set across all sectors, including agriculture, industry, power plants, poultry farms and greenhouses, with optimization projects being pursued seriously in each area.

He said 75 operator companies from 29 provinces have now signed agreements with provincial gas companies, adding that the number of contracts continues to rise as more firms show interest in participating.

According to Tavakoli, expanding cooperation with operator companies and increasing private-sector participation are among the key approaches adopted by the National Iranian Gas Company to implement consumption optimization policies.

He said continued implementation of the programs is expected to result in significant natural gas savings across the country.

Tavakoli also emphasized the importance of ongoing project monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of completed measures, saying stronger coordination among provincial gas companies, refineries and operational regions, along with sharing successful experiences, could help achieve Iran’s energy management and supply stability goals.
