Completion of projects, network safety top priorities for NIGC

SHANA (Tehran) - The CEO of National Iranian Gas Company said completing projects and improving the safety of the country’s gas network are the company’s top priorities, emphasizing that unfinished projects must be pursued with greater speed and precision across all sectors to ensure stability and safety.

According to the NIGC, CEO Saeid Tavakoli, speaking at the first meeting of gas industry managers, highlighted the importance of maintaining a stable gas network. He said efforts to complete unfinished projects aimed at enhancing the safety and reliability of pipelines and facilities throughout the gas supply chain must be accelerated.
Tavakoli also identified the implementation and expansion of Type 1 and Type 2 operator contracts in the Iranian year 1405 as a key measure for optimizing gas consumption across subsidiary companies.
Continuous Monitoring, Equipment Upgrades
Tavakoli described reducing flared gas ahead of targets set in the seventh development plan as a critical step for the coming year. He added that regular preventive maintenance programs must be carried out in gas distribution management and provincial gas companies, along with expanded maintenance and repair practices across the country’s 10 gas transmission regions.
He stressed that continuous network monitoring and equipment upgrades play a vital role in improving safety and reducing incidents.
Referring to the “Leak-Free 1405” initiative, Tavakoli said achieving a zero-leak target is a major priority, requiring all units — particularly provincial gas companies — to implement control and corrective measures consistently and rigorously.
Focus on Energy Baseline Standards
At the end of the meeting, the deputy oil minister emphasized compliance with energy baseline standards, especially in greenhouse and industrial sectors, as another organizational priority.
Tavakoli also called for implementing regulations under Article 26 of the Energy Consumption Reform Law in 1405, advancing requirements under Chapter 19 of Iran’s National Building Regulations — particularly in buildings and administrative facilities — strengthening emergency equipment, adhering to HSE standards, and fully executing all directives issued by the NIGC.
