Emad Rafiei, the company’s consumption director, said on a live state TV economic program that people’s cooperation helped lower use of all energy carriers, especially gasoline, during the conflict.
He also praised oil industry workers in operational areas, saying their around-the-clock efforts ensured uninterrupted delivery of fuel and energy supplies nationwide.
Rafiei emphasized that consumption management should continue throughout the year with public participation, noting increased use of public transportation in Tehran. He said similar measures should be expanded to other major cities with infrastructure such as metro systems and bus rapid transit.
He identified reduced use of single-occupancy vehicles as a key factor in lowering gasoline consumption, adding that during the conflict many people informally shared rides at no cost. He said such practices could be expanded through organized platforms to improve safety and trust among passengers.
Cutting Unnecessary Travel
Rafiei urged citizens to avoid nonessential urban travel and shift to online shopping instead of in-person trips to help reduce fuel use. He noted that fuel consumption for internet-based transport services, such as motorcycles, is lower than that of passenger cars.
He added that all energy carriers are interconnected, and saving electricity can reduce the need for gas or diesel in power plants, ultimately lowering imports, improving foreign exchange balances and helping curb inflation.
Rafiei also cited proper tire inflation for intercity travel, maintaining optimal speeds and avoiding aggressive driving as effective ways to reduce fuel consumption.
He encouraged drivers to use alternative fuels where possible, particularly compressed natural gas, or CNG, and urged owners of gasoline-powered vehicles to take advantage of free conversion programs to dual-fuel systems.
