Keramat Veys-Karami said contingency plans had been prepared in advance for crisis situations to ensure stable fuel distribution.
Speaking Sunday to state television, Veys-Karami provided details about an overnight attack on oil storage facilities in Tehran and Alborz provinces. He said that at about 10 p.m. Saturday, hostile aircraft carried out strikes on four oil product storage and distribution facilities and one oil product transfer center in the two provinces.
According to Veys-Karami, all five facilities sustained damage in the attacks. Emergency response and firefighting teams were immediately dispatched to the sites to contain the situation and manage the crisis.
Four oil industry workers were killed in the incident, he said.
Facilities Belong to Oil Ministry
Veys-Karami emphasized that the five facilities belong to the NIOPDC and the Iranian Oil Pipelines and Telecommunications Company, both subsidiaries of the Oil Ministry. He said the facilities were not owned by any other institution or organization.
He added that 15 fuel tanker trucks were also damaged in the attack. Two of the four victims were tanker drivers.
Emergency Planning for Fuel Supply
Veys-Karami said authorities had already developed various emergency scenarios to maintain fuel supply during crises.
He said the necessary measures have been taken to supply gasoline in Tehran and Alborz provinces, including maintaining adequate fuel reserves in oil depots.
Avoid Unnecessary Travel
Veys-Karami called on the public to remain calm and avoid unnecessary travel to help ensure stable fuel distribution.
He urged citizens to visit fuel stations only when they have an essential need and to allow emergency vehicles — including ambulances and trucks carrying essential goods — to have priority when refueling.
He also asked drivers to bring their personal smart fuel cards and use them at stations rather than requesting station-issued cards.
Vehicles equipped with dual-fuel systems should refuel only at stations that supply compressed natural gas and avoid gasoline-only stations, he said.
Visit Fuel Stations Only When Necessary
Veys-Karami also asked the public to avoid forming lines or crowding at fuel stations and to refuel only when necessary.
He urged citizens not to pay attention to rumors and to rely only on official statements from the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company.
“All planning has been done in advance to ensure fuel supply for the public,” he said. “Sufficient fuel has been stored in oil depots, and gasoline supply to Tehran and Alborz provinces, as well as other provinces, continues as normal.”
