In a statement released Sunday, Pezeshkian expressed deep sorrow over the martyrdom of the Leader, who had led the Islamic Republic of Iran for more than three decades. Pezeshkian praised Khamenei’s leadership, saying that during nearly four decades at the helm of the country he continued the path of the founder of the Islamic Republic, Ruhollah Khomeini. He described Khamenei as a figure who strengthened Iran’s independence and resistance to foreign pressure while emphasizing the role of the Iranian people.
The president highlighted Leader’s foresight, perseverance and commitment to the ideals of the Islamic Revolution, adding that these qualities would leave a lasting legacy in Iran’s contemporary history.
Pezeshkian also said Iran considers it a “legitimate right and duty” to pursue those responsible for the killing and vowed that the country would use all available means to hold the perpetrators accountable.
He extended condolences to Muslims worldwide, the Iranian nation and followers of the Leader, and called for unity among Iranian officials and the public to continue the path and ideals of the Islamic Revolution.
