Parliament backs Oil Ministry’s associated gas recovery program

SHANA (Tehran) – A member of parliament’s Energy Committee said collecting associated petroleum gas aligns with protecting national resources, reducing pollution and increasing economic value, adding that lawmakers support the Oil Ministry’s continued efforts.

Gholamreza Dehqan-Nasserabadi, citing what he described as effective measures by the Oil Ministry to capture associated gas, said the trend marks a significant step toward safeguarding national assets, cutting emissions and improving economic efficiency.

“Thanks to careful planning and targeted investment, the pace of associated gas recovery has accelerated noticeably, and we are now seeing reduced flaring in oil fields,” he said.

Dehqan-Nasserabadi said associated gas collection has been a key parliamentary demand under the Seventh Development Plan, particularly by the Energy Committee. He said the policy not only prevents the waste of valuable hydrocarbon resources but also plays an important role in lowering environmental pollution, improving air quality and boosting national revenue.

Oil Ministry shows resolve to protect national interests

He said implementing associated gas recovery projects, especially in joint fields, demonstrates the Oil Ministry’s strong commitment to protecting national interests. Part of the recovered gas is now being used as feedstock for petrochemical plants, generating significant added value for the country, he added.

Dehqan-Nasserabadi also highlighted the role of knowledge-based companies and domestic expertise in executing the projects, saying reliance on local contractors and specialists reduces external dependence while supporting job creation and economic growth in oil-producing regions.

He stressed the need to maintain momentum, saying parliament backs the Oil Ministry’s development plans to recover flare and associated gas and complete the value chain. “We hope that with the continuation of these measures, gas flaring in the country will be minimized in the near future,” he said.
