Russian energy minister emphasizes expanding economic cooperation with Iran

SHANA (Tehran) – Russia’s energy minister said a comprehensive agreement signed by the presidents of Iran and Russia, along with the outcomes of recent expert-level meetings, has paved the way for a new cooperation protocol and a fresh phase in ties between Tehran and Moscow.

Sergey Tsivilev, speaking Wednesday at the 19th Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Russian Federation, said the two sides held extensive online discussions within the framework of the commission, resulting in positive developments for expanding cooperation.

Referring to the history of bilateral collaboration, Tsivilev said a contract signed with the Eurasian Economic Union on May 15, 2025, marked a turning point in the expansion of economic relations between Iran and Russia.

He also cited the comprehensive agreement signed by the two countries’ presidents on Oct. 2, 2025, describing it as an important framework for deepening bilateral cooperation and advancing strategic relations.

Tsivilev said specialized working groups had intensively reviewed various topics over the past two days, adding that final conclusions would be made Wednesday and a joint cooperation protocol would be signed at the end of the meeting.

Noting the approach of the 20th anniversary of Iran-Russia joint cooperation, he said the event would be hosted in Russia and that efforts would be made to hold the session at the highest possible level.
