Low-energy technologies lead the push to cut energy use

SHANA (Tehran) – The head of energy and carbon management at the National Iranian Gas Company said shifting toward innovative, low-energy technologies, modernizing heating systems and reforming production processes is key to reducing gas consumption and improving energy efficiency in both industrial and household sectors.

According to the National Iranian Gas Company, Ali-Asghar Rajabi made the remarks at a specialized meeting on gas consumption management and energy efficiency, stressing the need for a new approach to energy use. He said that following the signing of five cooperation memorandums between the NIGC and contractor companies, practical solutions to save gas and boost energy efficiency in industrial and residential sectors were reviewed.

Rajabi said the initiatives focus on adopting modern, low-energy technologies, upgrading heating systems and promoting the use of high-efficiency heaters with the participation of domestic manufacturers.

He added that reforming production processes in traditional brick-making units and replacing them with modern methods that consume less gas represent a major opportunity to reduce energy intensity in Isfahan province. Achieving this goal, he said, requires close cooperation between executive bodies and the private sector.

Rajabi also highlighted the role of Isfahan’s major industries, saying investment in energy optimization projects and the participation of large companies such as Mobarakeh Steel, alongside contractor firms acting as intermediaries between the government and consumers, can play a significant role in sustainable energy management.

He stressed the need to design transparent mechanisms to monitor, measure and verify the actual savings achieved through optimization projects, adding that accurate and well-documented performance assessments of industrial units are a prerequisite for the success of energy consumption management policies.

Institutional Coordination Key to Success

At the same meeting, Ebrahim Mohseni-Homagarani, managing director of Isfahan Province Gas Co., said coordination among executive agencies, the National Iranian Gas Co. and the province’s industries is the main condition for the success of consumption management programs, reducing energy intensity and controlling carbon emissions. He added that leveraging the capacity of contractor companies would help advance sustainable development goals and protect natural resources.
