Second Phase of Sulfur Recovery Unit at Persian Gulf Star Refinery comes online

SHANA (Tehran) – The second phase of the sulfur recovery unit at the Persian Gulf Star Refinery was inaugurated during the Ten-Day Dawn celebrations, with the deputy oil minister for refining and distribution in attendance.

According to the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Co., Persian Gulf Star Oil Co. CEO Vahid Qaneifard said at the launch ceremony that the environmentally significant unit plays a key role in preventing pollution and stops the complete flaring of acid gases.

He said the sulfur recovery unit has a daily production capacity of 80 metric tons of solid sulfur, generating added value and delivering substantial economic benefits to the company. Qaneifard noted that the unit is the refinery’s final processing facility to be fully commissioned.

He also said the basic design of an ammonia unit has been completed to help finalize the value chain of the refinery’s specialty products. Given the product’s strategic and economic importance, construction of the unit has been placed on the company’s agenda.
