TEHRAN – The managing director of Borzouyeh Petrochemical Complex Sunday said the largest aromatic plant of the world started its experimental production in Pars Special Economic Energy Zone, southern Iran.

Hamid Rostami added Aromatic 4 would export 22 thousand tons of heavy end product.

The aromatic unit consists of 11 parexylene, orthoxylene, benzene, raffinite, heavy aromatics, liquefied gas, light and heavy hydrocarbons, and pentane cut production sections

According to the official, all units of the complex are either busy with producing or are prepared for production.

“Up to now, 13 thousand tons of light end, some 25 thousand tons of heart cut, and 30 tons of heavy end products have been produced,” added the managing director.

Borzouyeh Petrochemical Complex aimed at exporting its products, said Rostami, adding the heavy end product was sold to foreign companies in advance at world rate through finance procedures.

He added 578 million dollars was invested in construction of the world’s biggest aromatic unit.

Iran’s National Petrochemical Company (NPC) announced that 11 petrochemical projects would come on stream in the current year.

Carbon monoxide and acetic acid project, the first phase of isocyanate, the second pure terephthalic acid (PTA) and polyethylene terephthalate (PET), the low-density polyethylene (LDPE), the third ammoniac, and polycarbonate are the projects that will become operational at Fanavaran, Karoon, Tondgouyan, Laleh, Razi complexes respectively.

According to the NPC, the said projects are implemented in Mahshahr Special Economic Petrochemical Zone.

Moreover, Olefin 10, Olefin 9, fourth aromatic, and first ammoniac and urea units at Jam, Arya-Sasol, Ghadir, and Borzouyeh petrochemical complexes respectively are other projects that will be put into operation in Pars Special Economic Energy Zone (Assalouyeh).

The western provinceKermanshah will also witness the inauguration of the fifth urea and ammoniac project. of

NPC exported 5.9 million tons of its products valued at $3.2 billion in 2006.

The value of petrochemical exports represented 21 percent of Iran’s total non-oil exports, the company reported.

NPC took a 1.3 percent share in gross domestic product (GDP) of the country.
