President calls for creative solutions to improve energy efficiency

SHANA (Tehran) – President Masoud Pezeshkian stressed the need for innovative and creative solutions to better manage energy consumption.

According to president.ir, Pezeshkian said Saturday at a meeting of the Energy Consumption Optimization Task Force that the Leader’s recommendation on saving energy and electricity provides valuable support for the government and other agencies in their efforts to improve energy management. He said consumption must be managed through new and creative methods rather than the repetitive annual measures that often harm various sectors, especially production.

Highlighting examples of such solutions, he referred to reports from various bodies showing the role of vehicle fuel consumption in urban air pollution. He underscored the importance of making significant changes to the fuel used by both public and private urban vehicles, adding that proposals in this area will be presented soon.

The president called on the relevant agencies in the task force — particularly the minister of industry, mine and trade — to ensure that any reductions in gas and electricity supply to industrial and production units are minimized. He said any necessary restrictions should be applied intelligently and in line with the importance of the goods produced, economic considerations and similar factors. He also instructed officials to hold talks with related associations and facility managers to enforce stricter and more effective consumption management.

Encouraging Efficiency in Industrial and Production Units

Pezeshkian urged that industrial and production units be strongly encouraged to improve efficiency. He said the Organization for Optimization and Strategic Energy Management should lead efforts to regulate consumption across production sectors — including industry, agriculture and services — to enhance efficiency and optimize consumption.

He emphasized the need to provide effective incentives and support for households to install solar panels. He also called for strong promotional campaigns to explain the environmental benefits, reliable electricity generation and other advantages of increasing solar power systems, encouraging the public to install panels on residential buildings. Additionally, he said the overall benefits of the transition underway in the country’s electricity supply — from thermal and hydropower plants to solar power — should be communicated in clear, accessible language.
