TEHRAN – Managing director of Shahid Abbaspour dam and power plant noted that the eighth unit of the power plant, which is capable of producing 250 MW of electricity, will be made operational soon after termination of basic repairs.
Habibollah Jafari was quoted by the Public Relations Department of Khuzestan Water and Electricity Organization as saying that the power plant includes eight 250-MW units, seven of which is currently operating.
He added that Shahid Abbaspour power plant is capable of generating 1,750 MW of electricity at peak hours and when the eighth units becomes operational, its nominal capacity will hit 2,000 MW.
The official noted that Shahid Abbaspour dam is capable of controlling any possible flood in the region.
“Karoun 3, Shahid Abbaspour and Masjed Soleiman dams have played a crucial role in curbing floods in Ahvaz and downstream areas,” he noted.
Shahid Abbaspour power plant, which is the biggest hydropower plant of Iran, is located near Masjed Soleiman, north of Khuzestan province.
