Iran targets €3.7b in upstream oil projects by year-end

SHANA (Tehran) – Iran’s oil industry aims to bring more than €3.7 billion worth of strategic projects online by the end of this year, focusing on boosting oil and gas production and processing capacity to ensure the country’s energy stability.

Officials emphasize that the oil sector must develop as an integrated chain, maximizing existing investments to generate the highest possible value for the country. While downstream development relies on upstream production, experts stress that attention to upstream projects is as crucial as completing the downstream value chain.

Since the early days of the 14th administration, the Oil Ministry has prioritized both completing existing projects and initiating new ones to drive wealth creation and industry growth. By year-end, these efforts will see a series of key upstream energy projects operational, with a combined investment exceeding €3.7 billion. The projects primarily target increases in oil and gas output.

The National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) has 28 projects valued at €3.7 billion underway, aimed at expanding Iran’s oil production and processing capacity. Among these are the third phase of the Gachsaran Gas Injection Station and the completion of the Bibi Hakimeh Gas Injection Station to stabilize oil production. The third phase of the Rag-e-Sefid-1 Gas Boosting Station is also scheduled for launch by March 2026.

The Central Iranian Oil Fields Company plans to bring the Khartang gas field online to produce 4 million cubic meters per day by March. Gas boosting centers in Homa and Dehloran are expected to produce over 5 and 4 million cubic meters per day, respectively. Additionally, the Tabnak Separation Center will become operational by September, and the Tous Gas Field development project is slated for completion by December.

The Iran Offshore Oil Company will implement the Dorood Gas Project to increase oil production by 9,100 barrels per day by October and complete the Abuzar Pipeline, stabilizing output at 70,000 barrels per day by February. The company will also install platforms at the Reshadat oil field by March and complete the 30-inch Salman-Siri pipeline by November.

The Petroleum Engineering & Development Company (PEDEC) will launch Phase One of South Azadegan with 19 new wells, 18 submersible pumps, and a central processing unit. The project aims to raise oil production by 43,000 barrels per day and processing capacity by 80,000 barrels per day by March.

Among the National Iranian South Oil Company projects, key initiatives include installing a floating storage unit at the Jask Oil Terminal, developing the Siraf Service Port, completing five wells at South Pars infill sites to raise gas output by 6 million cubic meters per day, and finishing 18 remaining wells in South Pars to boost production by 14 million cubic meters per day by year-end.

In healthcare, a 64-bed hospital in Gachsaran, a 128-bed hospital in Abadan, and an emergency facility in Ahvaz are set to open this year. From flare gas reduction to infrastructure upgrades, these projects reflect Iran’s focus on energy sustainability and resilience, with significant economic and environmental impacts expected by year-end.
