Power plant diesel reserves grow with 7-m-liter boost

SHANA (Tehran) – The head of the National Iranian Oil Products Refining and Distribution Company said simultaneous efforts to boost production and manage consumption have increased diesel output by 7 million liters, leading to higher fuel reserves for power plants.

Mohammad-Sadeq Azimifar, the company’s managing director, said measures to raise diesel storage levels during peak gas demand included expanding production through higher refinery feedstock, commissioning new units, and implementing quality-improvement projects. These efforts added an average of 4 million liters a day to refinery diesel output.

He added that curbing fuel smuggling and managing consumption in non-power sectors also contributed to the increase. “Since the beginning of this year, daily diesel consumption has decreased by about 3 million liters compared with last year,” Azimifar said.

The deputy oil minister said the combined 7-million-liter surplus has significantly enhanced the country’s diesel storage capacity for power generation.
