Power plants lead, but households close the gap in weekly gas use

SHANA (Tehran) – Natural gas consumption by households, businesses and small industries continued to climb in the third week of October, reaching more than 1.604 billion cubic meters, while power plants used about 1.763 billion cubic meters during the same period — marking a close competition between the two major consumers.

Data from Oct. 11 to 17 show that power plants topped national gas consumption with approximately 1.763 billion cubic meters. The household, commercial and small industrial sectors followed with more than 1.604 billion cubic meters, while major industries consumed about 1.192 billion cubic meters. In total, gas consumption across these three sectors reached roughly 4.559 billion cubic meters during the week.

On Saturday, Oct. 11, power plants received 245.44 million cubic meters of gas, major industries 167.99 million and the household-commercial-small industrial sector 217.73 million, totaling about 631.16 million cubic meters.

On Sunday, Oct. 12, consumption rose as power plants used 250.95 million cubic meters, major industries 167.69 million and the household-commercial-small industrial sector 236.53 million, for a total of 655.17 million cubic meters.

On Monday, Oct. 13, gas deliveries reached 257.32 million cubic meters for power plants, 170.74 million for major industries and 237.59 million for households, businesses and small industries — totaling 665.65 million cubic meters.

On Tuesday, Oct. 14, power plants consumed 251.27 million cubic meters, major industries 167.66 million and the household-commercial-small industrial sector 230.53 million, totaling 649.46 million cubic meters.

On Wednesday, Oct. 15, gas consumption stood at 258.85 million cubic meters for power plants, 172.71 million for major industries and 222.32 million for households, adding up to 653.88 million cubic meters.

On Thursday, Oct. 16, power plants used 257.77 million cubic meters, major industries 173.21 million and the household-commercial-small industrial sector 236.69 million, totaling 667.67 million cubic meters.

On Friday, Oct. 17, power plants consumed 241.55 million cubic meters, major industries 171.77 million and the household-commercial-small industrial sector 222.65 million, with total daily consumption of about 635.97 million cubic meters.

Weekly data ending Oct. 17 show that power plants remain the dominant consumers with an average daily usage of around 252 million cubic meters. Consumption fluctuations were greater in the household, commercial and small industrial sectors compared with major industries.
