Oil minister reviews winter fuel supply preparedness

SHANA (Tehran) – The oil minister and his deputies convened a meeting Saturday, Oct. 4, to review the latest measures ensuring stable fuel supply across the country ahead of the cold season.

The session, held at the Oil Ministry headquarters and chaired by Minister Mohsen Paknejad, focused on the ministry’s preparedness to guarantee timely fuel delivery to various sectors. Officials noted that, compared with the same period last year, both liquid fuel and natural gas reserves have seen significant growth.

According to presented data, liquid fuel reserves stored at power plants and National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company (NIOPDC) facilities have more than doubled year-on-year — a sign of the ministry’s strong commitment to maintaining fuel supply stability.

During the first half of the current Iranian year (March 21–September 22), the ministry also ensured uninterrupted gas deliveries to power plants despite record summer heat and a sharp rise in electricity demand. Gas supplied to power plants during this period rose by 2 billion cubic meters from last year to reach 50.2 billion cubic meters.

Other topics discussed included boosting raw gas production capacity onshore and offshore, providing alternative fuels to power plants and major industries, and managing gas injection into storage facilities such as Shourijeh and Sarajeh.
