Saeid Tavakoli, deputy oil minister for gas affairs, stressed that the country is “overly dependent” on natural gas and called on local gas inspectors,” to play a key role in promoting energy efficiency.
Speaking via video conference at the launch of the national Energy Ambassadors program, Tavakoli praised the efforts of more than 5,100 gas inspectors across the country. He said they serve as vital links between the National Iranian Gas Company and the public, helping ensure network stability, safety and efficient use of gas.
“No one in a village can assess gas installations better than a gas inspector,” he said, adding that even small steps can have major impacts on safety and reliability.
Tavakoli also pointed to the economic benefits of reducing gas use in power plants and shifting toward renewable fuels. Lowering consumption, he said, would free up resources for industry, support job creation and boost gross domestic product.
He emphasized the importance of public participation, noting that saving gas cannot be achieved without the support of citizens. “Every small step can lead to big change,” he said, adding that every gas company employee can also serve as an energy ambassador.
