Overhaul of South Pars Refinery 10 completed

SHANA (Tehran) – The overhaul of Phase 10 of the South Pars Gas Refinery has been successfully completed, marking a major step toward improving operational efficiency and process stability, according to the plant’s director.

Mohammad Nemati, director of the refinery, said the maintenance shutdown included a wide range of technical operations that significantly enhanced the performance and reliability of refinery processes.

According to a report by South Pars Gas Complex, Nemati noted that the maintenance work involved a complete cleaning of heat exchangers 102 and 202, tube washing, and selective tube replacements. “These actions have improved heat transfer efficiency and prevented performance degradation in the processing units,” he said, adding that leak tests are currently underway following the cleaning procedures.

He also reported safe pressurization of pipelines, tower and vessel cleaning in the condensate stabilization unit, and the full readiness of equipment for the startup of Phase A. Additional activities included the calibration of transmitters and the repair of 39 pressure valves (PVs) in Unit 103, which Nemati said led to a significant improvement in the accuracy of operational measurements and controls.

“The propane refrigerant compressors were successfully started and stabilized, and the amine pumps in Phase A have been integrated into the system to ensure continuous amine flow and efficient gas sweetening,” Nemati added.

Other key maintenance actions included the unloading and replacement of adsorption beds, repair of control valves, expanders, furnaces, and manual valves, full cleaning of valves, pressure switches, and strainers, as well as air cooler washing and execution of ESD (Emergency Shutdown) and EDP (Emergency Depressurization) tests.

Nemati emphasized that these achievements were the result of round-the-clock efforts by the refinery’s technical and engineering teams. “By adhering to strict safety and quality standards, they have taken a significant step toward sustainable development in the country’s gas industry,” he said.
