Isfahan Oil Refinery produces heptane solvent for first time in Iran

SHANA (Tehran) – The Isfahan Oil Refinery has successfully produced heptane solvent for the first time in Iran. This product plays a significant role in reducing air pollution by cutting MTBE consumption.

Asghar Saberi, the refinery's production deputy, announced the achievement, stating that heptane production contributes to environmental protection and reduced air pollution. He explained that heptane can effectively help decrease the use of MTBE (methyl tertiary-butyl ether), an octane-boosting additive.

In addition to supplying over 20% of Iran’s fuel, the Isfahan Oil Refinery has prioritized environmental and social responsibility projects. These include initiatives such as providing drinking water from the Oman Sea and expanding solar power plants. These efforts not only meet domestic needs but also help reduce energy consumption and emissions.

Heptane is a widely used non-polar solvent, particularly in industries and laboratories, due to its ability to dissolve many organic compounds and evaporate easily. It's a straight-chain alkane (C7H16) and is typically a clear, colorless liquid with a faint, petroleum-like odor.

It's used in industrial processes like cleaning, degreasing, and as a diluent in various products.
