Major transformation in IOTC' maritime fleet

SHANA (Tehran) – At the 29th International Oil, Gas, Refining & Petrochemical Exhibition (Iran Oil Show 2025), the Iranian Oil Terminals Company (IOTC) unveiled a comprehensive plan to rebuild and modernize its maritime operational fleet. The initiative aims to enhance safety, boost productivity, reduce reliance on leased vessels, and increase operational capacity.

Abbas Asadrouz, the CEO of IOTC emphasized that the overhaul aligns with the broader policies of the oil industry, focusing on strengthening domestic capabilities, cutting costs, and improving emergency preparedness.

The project includes investment measures, asset acquisition, major repairs, fleet leasing, and contract management optimization. Key asset acquisitions include:

- Eight ASD tugboats

- Twelve line-handling boats

- One marine ambulance

- Two pollution-control vessels

- Construction of crew transfer boats

Additionally, the company will directly invest in purchasing several tugboats and a new barge.

Until the new fleet is fully operational, the company plans to lease tugboats, line-handling boats, and support barges annually to ensure uninterrupted maritime operations. Major repairs and overhauls for existing tugboats and operational vessels are also planned.

The CEO stressed the importance of professionalizing supply chain management through contract oversight. Specialized services, including tender documentation, execution supervision, and engineering document optimization, will be implemented.

This project is expected to significantly improve reliability, enhance maritime safety, reduce costs, and strengthen the company’s role in Iran’s energy export chain.

The initiative marks a strategic step toward operational independence and increased resilience in Iran’s oil maritime transportation sector.
