Daily production at SP gas field equivalent to 4.5m barrels of crude oil

SHANA (Tehran) – The gas production at South Pars field is equivalent to 4.5 million barrels of crude oil per day, according to the oil and gas engineering director of Pars Oil and Gas Company. He noted that this significant output supplies the majority of Iran’s consumed gas and gas condensates, as well as feedstock for 40% of the country’s gasoline production.

Shahab Gerami made the remarks Tuesday during a specialized meeting on investment opportunities in gas field development at the "Transformation in Investment and Development in Iran’s Upstream Oil and Gas" event. Highlighting Pars Oil and Gas Company’s strategic role in energy supply, he said the company’s skilled workforce enabled it to set a daily production record of 716 million cubic meters of rich gas at South Pars during last year’s cold season.

Gerami also discussed four major fields managed by Pars Oil and Gas Company under the IPC (Iran Petroleum Contract) model at the event. The Golshan and Ferdowsi fields hold a combined 24 trillion cubic feet of in-place reserves, while the Kish and North Pars fields also have substantial gas reserves.

The director noted that these fields contain varying levels of hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide compared to other developed gas fields. He added that they operate under higher pressures, ranging from 1,000 to 2,500 psi, requiring special considerations in design, well completion equipment selection, and processing facilities due to their elevated reservoir temperatures and pressures.
