Iran hopes Kuwait will agree to talks on Arash gas field

SHANA (Tehran) – Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei on Monday reiterated that the dispute over the shared Arash gas field must be resolved through negotiations and mutual agreement, taking into account the historical and customary rights of both parties.

Baqaei, speaking at a press conference, dismissed Kuwait’s repeated claims, stating, “As a principle, repeating a claim through the media does not grant any government legal rights. Continuously asserting unilateral positions on an issue that should be resolved through negotiations carries no legal weight for either side.”

He emphasized, “The issue of the shared Arash field must be negotiated and settled with regard to the historical and customary rights of the parties involved—specifically, the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

Baqaei added, “I now invite our Kuwaiti friends to respond positively to the Islamic Republic of Iran’s invitation for talks to resolve this matter. Let us turn this shared field into another opportunity for understanding and friendship between our two nations.”
