The initiative aims to enhance safety, improve efficiency and enable precise monitoring of pipelines.
As part of its investment packages at the "Transformation in Investment and Development in Iran’s Upstream Oil and Gas" event, NIOC has identified smart pigging as a key strategic development project. The technology is designed to boost safety, optimize pipeline performance and reduce operational risks, covering pipelines ranging from 6 to 48 inches in diameter. The project spans operations under four major companies: National Iranian South Oil Company, Arvandan Oil & Gas Co., Pars Oil & Gas Co. and Iranian Central Oil Fields Co.
Smart pigging, a form of in-line inspection (ILI), uses advanced tools to accurately detect corrosion, cracks and structural anomalies in pipelines. In addition to extending infrastructure lifespan, the technology helps prevent accidents and lowers maintenance costs.
This investment presents a unique opportunity for tech firms, specialized contractors and both domestic and foreign investors to strengthen Iran’s oil and gas value chain. Beyond its technical advantages, the project is a significant step toward localizing advanced technologies and enhancing domestic capabilities in Iran’s oil industry.
At the upstream investment and development event, NIOC is presenting over 200 opportunities for large, mid-sized and small investors under various contract models.
