Iran’s oil minister arrives in Baghdad

SHANA (Tehran) – Iran’s Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad arrived in Baghdad on a two-day visit to discuss expanding energy cooperation between Iran and Iraq.

Paknejad, who traveled at the invitation of his Iraqi counterpart, visited the memorial of martyrs Qassem Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis upon arrival, paying tribute to them.

During his trip, Paknejad is scheduled to meet with Iraqi top officials to explore ways to strengthen energy collaboration.

Before the visit, Paknejad noted that he had been invited by Iraq’s oil minister and said various areas of cooperation had already been discussed between the two countries.

“We hope to finalize agreements on energy cooperation during this trip and sign relevant memorandums,” he said. “Iran and Iraq have strong relations, particularly in the oil sector and joint energy projects.”

In a previous meeting in March 2025, Paknejad and Iraq’s Electricity Minister Ziad Ali Fadel met in Tehran, emphasizing expanded cooperation in oil, gas, petrochemicals and electricity.
