SPGC takes major strides toward sustainable production

SHANA (Tehran) – The acting supervisor of Site 2 at South Pars Gas Complex (SPGC) announced extensive plans to boost production, enhance operational flexibility, reduce flaring, and improve employee housing infrastructure, stating that the measures taken will ensure safe and stable production in the upcoming winter.

Hassan As'adi noted that significant steps have been taken this year to develop, increase output, and optimize operations at the complex’s refineries. He said that with the start of major maintenance at the first phase of the ninth refinery—following approved plans and thorough diagnostics—a specialized maintenance task force has been formed to manage the process effectively. Delegating authority to refineries, increasing oversight of preventive maintenance, and strict adherence to schedules have been emphasized.

As'adi expressed satisfaction with the collaborative, supportive, and team-oriented environment at the refineries, adding that the results of this synergy were evident last winter and that development efforts will continue with the same approach.

The acting supervisor of Site 2 said the focus remains on fully implementing corrective measures from root-cause analyses of emergency refinery shutdowns, as well as periodic maintenance of critical equipment, including turbocompressors, turbogenerators, turboexpanders, boilers, and desalination units.

As'adi highlighted improved operational flexibility through inter-refinery pipeline capacity, noting that completing the 13th refinery’s connection line, making upgrades to inter-phase lines, and testing the new inter-phase line at Site 2 refineries are underway to maximize efficiency and reduce downtime during major maintenance.

Regarding the flaring reduction project, he said it is being vigorously pursued this year in procurement, execution, and bidding. The handover process of the 13th refinery is a key priority, and by addressing operational bottlenecks with dedicated management efforts, increased production from this refinery will be achieved this winter.

As'adi added that infrastructure development—including operational staff housing, satellite employee accommodations, and residential town projects—is a top priority for the complex this year.
