Energy diversification a top priority for gov’t

SHANA (Tehran) – Government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani said Tuesday that utilizing clean energy and diversifying the energy portfolio are key priorities for the administration, which will help reduce power outages for industries.

Speaking at a press conference in response to a question about the government’s plans to address energy imbalances, Mohajerani noted that at the end of last year, power cuts during winter caused losses for some industrial producers.

Following efforts by the minister of industry, mines and trade, a support package was announced to partially compensate for those losses. The measure, she said, fostered a collaborative national effort among various agencies to mitigate the impact on production units.

She added that, in line with this year’s focus on production and investment, the administration has plans to increase electricity generation capacity. Among these efforts is the use of clean energy and diversification of the energy mix, which she emphasized as a major priority to reduce industrial power outages.

The government spokesperson highlighted that many large industries are installing solar power plants on factory rooftops and production facilities, which could help reduce reliance on the national grid and meet energy demands during peak consumption seasons.

Mohajerani acknowledged ongoing challenges related to power outages and energy imbalances but said the administration continues to work on strengthening energy infrastructure by leveraging existing resources, including industrial power plants and renewable energy, while supporting producers.
