Record-breaking achievements gained in gas production, delivery

SHANA (Tehran) – Despite rising gas demand and challenges stemming from the imbalance between production and consumption, the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) has achieved unprecedented milestones in the country’s gas industry during the first 196 days of the 14th administration’s tenure.

Through the implementation of development projects, increased gas production capacity, and optimized gas delivery processes, NIOC has played a key role in mitigating the energy crisis and ensuring stable gas supply.

One of the most significant achievements during this period is the substantial increase in raw gas production, which has risen by 35 million cubic meters per day compared to the same period last year.

This production growth, alongside infrastructure optimization, has led to a daily increase of 26 million cubic meters in raw gas delivered to the National Iranian Gas Company for domestic use, including power plants, industries, and residential and commercial sectors.

NIOC has repeatedly set historic records in gas production and delivery. In one instance, raw gas production reached 1.106 billion cubic meters per day, marking the highest daily production ever recorded in the country. Additionally, the delivery of raw gas to the National Iranian Gas Company hit a new record of 1.021 billion cubic meters per day.

These figures not only reflect the country’s growing production capacity but also highlight effective resource management and continuous efforts to improve gas supply amid ongoing energy challenges.

Key measures to address gas imbalance

To better manage resources and reduce the gas imbalance, NIOC has implemented a series of measures in production, distribution, and maintenance.

One such measure is optimizing the timing and reducing the duration of major gas facility overhauls. Through precise planning and coordination with gas refineries, the company has ensured continuous production capacity utilization.

Additionally, the development of gas fields and increased production in various regions have significantly contributed to addressing the imbalance. Key projects include the launch of the Varavi Pressure Boosting Station, which added 2 million cubic meters per day to production, and the development of the Day Gas Field, which produces approximately 3 million cubic meters daily.

Several development wells were also brought online during this period. Wells such as Dalan 19, Aban 18, and Khangiran 85, each producing around 1.5 million cubic meters per day, and Tang Bijar 14, producing 0.6 million cubic meters daily, have played a crucial role in boosting gas production capacity.

These efforts have enabled NIOC to maintain gas production levels while improving domestic supply.

Results of efforts to ensure gas supply stability

Through these extensive programs, NIOC has increased liquid fuel storage for power plants ahead of winter, reducing reliance on gas consumption during colder months.

In response to gas imbalance challenges in the network, necessary measures were taken to ensure stable gas production during winter. Company officials noted that completing major facility overhauls ahead of schedule played a significant role in securing a stable gas supply for the winter.

Another major achievement is the ability to store gas in new fields for use during peak winter demand. This initiative not only improves resource management but also strengthens the country’s resilience to consumption fluctuations. Furthermore, these measures have enabled Iran to meet its gas export commitments to Iraq and Turkey, ensuring stable domestic supply while enhancing its position in international gas markets.

Future plans to increase gas production capacity

NIOC has outlined several plans to boost production capacity and optimize gas supply processes. One key initiative is increasing production at the Pars Oil and Gas Company beyond approved targets, up to the maximum capacity of facilities, platforms, and refineries.

Notable projects include the launch of Well 7 on Platform 11B, with a production capacity of 3 million cubic meters per day, and Well 4 on Platform 13A, capable of injecting 2 million cubic meters of gas daily into the network.

Additionally, the process of increasing winter production at gas fields in central Iran began earlier than usual. While this process typically starts in December, it was initiated in October this year to ensure a stable gas supply during winter.

Reducing gas imbalance through development programs

By implementing a series of strategic measures, NIOC has significantly increased gas production and delivery. Historic records in gas production and delivery, the commissioning of new wells, optimized facility overhauls, and precise fuel storage management are among the company’s most notable achievements in the past 196 days.

With the continuation of these efforts and the execution of development programs, the gas imbalance challenge is expected to gradually decrease, enhancing the stability of the gas network. This progress will not only alleviate domestic energy supply issues but also strengthen Iran’s position in international gas markets.
