Mohammad-Sadeq Azimifar, speaking on Thursday, noted that the fuel portfolio for power plants includes gas, diesel, and fuel oil. He explained that the portion managed by NIORDC consists of diesel and fuel oil.
Azimifar highlighted that the daily delivery target set by higher authorities for the Ministry of Oil in the month of Bahman (January-February) was 50 million liters of diesel.
He added, "Fortunately, thanks to the efforts of my colleagues at refineries and the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company, an average of 54 million liters of diesel were delivered daily to power plants during Bahman, exceeding the target set by higher authorities."
117m liters of fuel delivered to power plants
The NIORDC CEO stated that on Wednesday, Feb. 12, a total of 117 million liters of fuel were delivered to power plants, including 79 million liters of diesel and 38 million liters of fuel oil.
He compared this to the same day last year, when 31 million liters of diesel and 26 million liters of fuel oil were delivered, marking an increase of approximately 60 million liters of liquid fuel this year.
Azimifar continued, "On the 22nd and 23rd of Bahman, there were no issues at Tehran's power plants, and fuel supply exceeded demand. However, as the oil minister mentioned, the power outages were due to issues in the electricity grid."
He emphasized that, according to official figures from the Ministry of Energy's Thermal Power System, a total of 18.9 billion liters of liquid fuel were delivered to power plants in 1403, compared to 13.5 billion liters the previous year, representing a 40% increase.
No significant issues in fuel supply for power plants
Azimifar noted that in Bahman, the daily target for diesel delivery was 50 million liters, but the actual delivery averaged 54 million liters. He stated, "Based on the Thermal Power System data, we have no significant issues in supplying fuel to power plants."
He described the fuel reserves at Tehran's power plants as favorable and added that the recent outages were related to grid issues, which were quickly resolved by colleagues at the Ministry of Energy.
He assured that the fuel delivery system to power plants is currently functioning without problems.
Azimifar also mentioned that while the maintenance of power plants falls under the Ministry of Energy's jurisdiction, the supply of liquid fuel, managed by NIORDC, is in good condition.
On the previous day, 117 million liters of liquid fuel were delivered to power plants, a 60-million-liter increase compared to the same day last year.
Increased fuel production, delivery
The deputy oil minister emphasized that this increase was supported by higher production at the country's refineries, where an average of 121 million liters of diesel were produced daily, 14 million liters more than the corresponding figure of last year.
Azimifar pointed out that last year, the average daily delivery of diesel to power plants in Bahman was 39 million liters, while this year it reached 54 million liters.
He reiterated that there have been no issues in supplying fuel to power plants, but the way the fuel portfolio is utilized is a separate matter.
He also mentioned that on the previous day, the gas consumption of thermal power plants was 75 million cubic meters, which would exceed 90 million cubic meters if industrial power plants were included.
The consumption of diesel was approximately 80 million liters, and fuel oil consumption was around 38 million liters.
