Dariush Golmohammadi, speaking on Tuesday at the inauguration ceremony of various fuel diversification projects, revealed that the company has produced 423,000 CNG vehicles to date.
He noted that production began in 2004 with 89 units and increased to 51,000 units by 2010 over five years.
Golmohammadi stated that CNG vehicles accounted for 77% of Zamyad’s total production in 2010, marking the highest production level at the time. However, he added that production declined in subsequent years due to various challenges, though the share of CNG vehicles remained high.
By 2017, CNG vehicles made up 81% of production, but the total number of units dropped to 22,000 due to an overall decline in the company’s output.
The CEO explained that production of CNG vehicles decreased because of reliance on imported parts and high foreign currency costs, leading to a shift toward gasoline-powered vehicles.
This trend caused the share of CNG vehicle production to fall below 50%. However, efforts to revive production have since increased the share to an average of 46% from 2021 to the present.
Golmohammadi emphasized the public’s preference for CNG vehicles, stating that increased production requires more support. He highlighted that these vehicles not only offer economic benefits but also significantly reduce fuel consumption.
He also pointed out that when CNG vehicles accounted for 77% of production, they met Euro 2 standards, which were easier to achieve due to lower reliance on foreign parts. However, transitioning to Euro 4 and Euro 5 standards introduced greater challenges in production.
