15 bcm of gas sent from South Pars refinery to national grid

SHANA (Tehran) – The supervisor of the second refinery at the South Pars Gas Complex announced that the facility has sent nearly 15 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas to the national grid since the beginning of this year (March 20, 2024).

Mohsen Attarzadeh highlighted the significant advancements made by the complex in recent years, stating that experts and staff at the second refinery (Phases 2 and 3) of the South Pars Gas Complex have successfully processed over 19 bcm of gas from shared reservoirs since the start of the year.

This was achieved using modern technology and 100% domestically produced equipment, with the gas being purified and converted into byproducts.

Attarzadeh emphasized that the South Pars Gas Complex has transformed the country’s energy sector, noting that during the same period, nearly 15 bcm of purified gas from the second refinery were sent to the national grid.

He described the South Pars Gas Complex as a shining star in Iran’s oil and gas industry, creating jobs for over 22,000 people, increasing added value, and significantly boosting the country’s export capacity and foreign currency earnings.

Attarzadeh added that sanctions have had a counterproductive effect on the country’s largest gas complex, leading to numerous achievements at the South Pars refineries.

The complex now accounts for 73% of the country’s gas production, a success he attributed to the dedication and hard work of the experts and staff across the refineries.

He also noted that since the beginning of the year, nearly 97,000 tons of granulated sulfur have been produced at the second refinery of the South Pars Gas Complex.
