Babak Moridi highlighted the increasing pressure drop in reservoirs and the rising percentage of water in wells, leading to a decline in well flow pressure.
He stated that since the 2000s, the use of downhole pumps as a method of artificial lift to maintain and increase production from low-pressure wells has been a priority for NISOC.
Moridi added that so far, 72 wells with an effective flow rate of approximately 60,000 barrels per day have been equipped with various types of downhole pumps, including Sucker Rod Pumps (SRP), Electric Submersible Pumps (ESP), and Progressive Cavity Pumps (PCP).
The head of NISOC's Engineering and Development Department also revealed plans to supply, install, and replace 180 downhole pumps over the next five years.
He said that based on projections, the increase and maintenance of production from these pumps are expected to reach approximately 80,000 and 120,000 barrels per day, respectively.
