Daily loss of 27.5 mcm of gas prevented in South Pars

SHANA (Tehran) – The head of maintenance at the first South Pars refinery announced that a major overhaul of the mercaptan removal unit has prevented the daily waste of over 27.5 million cubic meters (mcm) of standard gas.

Akbar Gholami stated that by leveraging the expertise of local specialists at the first South Pars refinery, the loss of more than 27.5 mcm of gas—equivalent to the daily consumption of a city with 2 million people—was avoided.

He detailed the efforts of specialists after the mercaptan removal unit was taken out of service, explaining that through the dedication and teamwork of maintenance and operational staff, the issue was identified and resolved within 48 hours.

The team meticulously studied technical documents, pinpointed the configuration problem, and implemented necessary measures to maintain optimal production conditions while maximizing capacity utilization.

Gholami noted that the mercaptan removal unit has faced structural design issues since the refinery's initial launch. However, relying on local expertise and domestic equipment, specialists and maintenance personnel were able to identify and resolve the problem in the shortest possible time.

Emphasizing that sustained production relies on the collaboration of all operational units and the capabilities of skilled personnel, Gholami expressed his gratitude to the maintenance and operational teams for their relentless efforts and sense of responsibility in swiftly addressing the issue.
