Energy imbalance discussed in Parliament

SHANA (Tehran) – The spokesperson for the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Parliament noted the presence of the oil minister at the commission's meeting, stating that the minister empasized his ministry's efforts to ensure citizens face minimal challenges in the energy sector.

Ebrahim Rezaei, speaking about the Tuesday meeting of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, which was attended by the ministers of oil and energy, said the session focused on the issue of energy imbalance and its role in national security.

Rezaei added that the oil minister presented a report from his ministry on the supply of household gas and the measures taken by the ministry.

The minister reiterated that the ministry aims to minimize challenges for citizens in the energy sector.

The lawmaker highlighted two key factors mentioned by the oil minister to address energy imbalance: increasing production and managing demand.

Rezaei stated that, according to the oil minister, the ministry has recently increased gas and gas condensate production and raised feedstock supplies to refineries.

The oil minister also noted that supporting energy-intensive industries is a priority for the ministry, and pressure enhancement in the South Pars gas field is among the programs being pursued. Failure to address pressure enhancement could result in the loss of production in Phase 1 of South Pars.

Regarding energy demand and consumption, Rezaei said the oil minister stressed the need for managing energy consumption and ensuring production keeps pace with demand. This requires optimizing energy equipment and promoting cultural measures related to consumption.

Rezaei added that, according to the oil minister, the decisions made require cultural and social support, and household consumption is a red line for the ministry.

Statistics show that for every one-degree decrease in temperature, gas consumption increases by 25 million cubic meters, with this figure reaching 95 million cubic meters at the start of the cold season.

The oil minister also emphasized full coordination with the Ministry of Energy to manage energy consumption.
