Ensuring gas network stability requires consumption management

SHANA (Tehran) – The deputy minister of oil for gas affairs emphasized that the current stability of the national gas network is a result of effective network management and the cooperation of all institutions and citizens with the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC).

On Tuesday, Saeid Tavakoli, speaking during the 22nd meeting of the Winter Fuel Supply Committee held via videoconference with senior managers and heads of provincial gas companies, stated: “Considering forecasts that indicate peak gas consumption on Thursday and Friday this week, I urge you to maintain your coordination with governors to prevent any issues with pressure drops or gas outages in any region of the country.”

He added: “If the network is currently stable and maintaining good pressure, it is due to effective management and the collective cooperation of institutions and citizens with the NIGC.”

The official further explained that although cold weather persists in certain areas, particularly in the northwest and northeast of the country, the national gas network continues to operate reliably without any interruptions, thanks to divine blessing and the tireless efforts of colleagues across various divisions of the company.

Addressing the heads of provincial gas companies, Tavakoli stated: “I urge you to perform your duties with precision, sincerity, and pure intentions, solely for the satisfaction of God. Rest assured, your efforts will not go unrewarded. Avoid being distracted by unfair media reports or other controversies. You and your colleagues have delivered exceptional performance so far, and I am confident this will continue.”

He emphasized that while the Ministry of Oil is responsible for fuel supply, fuel consumption management falls under the Ministry of Energy.

“This is not the time for narrow focus; rather, it is the collective coordination among various entities, along with strategic decisions and collaboration across all government sectors, that will help us navigate these conditions successfully.”

The deputy minister also stressed the importance of strict monitoring of government offices and cutting off gas supply to non-compliant institutions.

“This should remain a priority, with implementation and adherence to issued directives carried out rigorously,” he said.

Highlighting the significant role of local media, particularly state-run broadcasters, Tavakoli noted: “Producing localized content in native languages and involving trusted community figures can have a considerable impact.”

He concluded by emphasizing the importance of using the winter season as an opportunity for open communication with the public.

“We must hold various sessions to raise awareness and address public concerns. People need to know that we possess the second-largest gas reserves in the world, and this information must be communicated accurately”.
