Oil Products Consumption Up by 9 Percent

SHANA (Tehran) - Mohammad Sadegh Azimifard, the CEO of the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company (NIORDC) has said that oil product consumption has increased by 9 percent.

Speaking at a meeting with the company's former CEOs, he added that an average of 270 million liters of various petroleum products are distributed daily in the country.

Azimifard also mentioned that if financial resources are secured, completing some refining projects with a high level of physical progress could increase the country's refining capacity by 600,000 barrels.

"The distribution and consumption of products in the country have risen from 247 million liters per day to 270 million liters daily, which is a significant jump," The CEO said, adding that the highest growth in liquid fuel consumption this year compared to last year has been in the power generation sector.

He noted that gasoline consumption has been growing at an annual rate of about 6 percent over the past two years, projecting if this trend continues, daily gasoline consumption will reach 172 million liters by 2031.

The CEO of the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company (NIORDC) added that the imbalance in liquid fuel extends to diesel fuel as well, even though there is no imbalance in the production of heavy fuel oil, which is being exported.

In another part of his remarks, he mentioned that the country's current refining capacity for crude oil is 2.4 million barrels per day, of which 500,000 barrels are gas condensate and 1.9 million barrels are crude oil with Abadan oil refinery, as the largest refining complex in the country, processes 470,000 barrels of oil daily.
