Iran Pursuing Expanding Relations with Russia

SHANA (Tehran) - Iranian president Masoud Pezeshkian says that deepening relations between Tehran and Moscow will blunt the biting effect of cruel sanctions against Iran and Russia.

Speaking in a meeting with Sergei Shoigu, Secretary of the Russian Federation Security Council on Tuesday, the Iranian president referred to the constructive relations between the two neighboring countries adding he will follow up on the existing agreements. 

Pezeshkian continued: Tehran and Moscow's lasting relations will be expanded permanently and continuously.

Referring to the Russian envoy's remarks on making preparations for holding a meeting between Iran and Russian presidents on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Kazan, Pezeshkian expressed hope the meeting to be fruitful in view of boosting bilateral, regional and international cooperation including in the form of BRICS, Shanghai and the Eurasian Economic Union.

During the meeting, the Russian envoy said that during his travel to Iran, he conveyed the message of Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding the unchangeable position of Moscow on regional cooperation.

He also said that the Russian President is impatiently looking forward to meeting his Iranian counterpart on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Kazan.

Russia will hold the BRICS Summit in Kazan from October 22 to 24, 2024.

During its BRICS presidency this year, Russia has said it will focus on "promoting the entire range of partnership and cooperation within the framework of the association on three key tracks – politics and security, the economy and finance, and cultural and humanitarian ties."
