Sanctions not welcome but helped Iranian genius bloom: NPC CEO

SHANA (Tehran) – Iran’s National Petrochemical Company (NPC) managing director on Thursday said “we do not welcome sanctions, but the conditions imposed during the era of sanctions led to the blooming of the Iranians’ genius”.

Morteza Shahmirzaei, who attended the First Seminar on CO2 Capture on Wednesday, put great emphasis on support for domestic production, calling for speeding up the transfer of the world’s latest technical know-how and technologies with the aim of becoming self-sufficient.

The CEO of NPC added, “Relying on domestic expertise, we are developing the petrochemical industry.”

Based on the country’s macro policies and development outlook, “we have to take steps toward complete self-sufficiency and halt to imports”, the deputy oil minister underlined.

Shifting to the collection of associated petroleum gas (APG) and carbon management, Shahmirzaei said NPC has attached great significance to the issue since two years ago.

The projects for gathering associated gases in Gachsaran, Maroun, Masjed Soleyman, and eastern Ahvaz not only help protect the environment, but also provides a part of petrochemical complexes’ feedstock.
