TEHRAN – Director of research and development department of the National Iranian Oil Company noted that developing Zagheh oil field is a priority among heavy oil fields of Iran.

Mohammad Ali Emadi stated that board of directors of the National Iranian Oil Company stressed the need for investment on the field and added that dangerous conditions of the fields well including high pressure have caused many problems for completing it. He said completing Zagheh fields well and reducing its pressure is the most important measure to be taken now. “If the wells pressure does not reduce and we face a serious risk of oil gushing out of the well, then the department will think about drilling another well,” he said. The official stated that situation of the current well at Zagheh oil field will be cleared in 3 months. In-situ reserves of the field have been estimated at 1.249 billion barrels and its API has been set at 14.6-15.6. The Russian Tatenov is in charge of developing the field. Zagheh oil field is located near Dailem port and southeast of Rag Sefid field. Drilling a well to a depth of 4,230 m under the seabed is part of the fields development plan.
