Deputy minister says knowledge-based firms will help improve furnace oil quality

SHANA (Tehran) – Iran’s deputy oil minister and the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company managing director on Sunday said NIORDC will enjoy domestic knowledge-based cooperation to accelerate the implementation of a project for improving furnace oil.

The official made the remarks in a ceremony Shiraz Oil Refining Company (SORC) and Exir Novin Farayand Asia (ENFA) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on enhancement of furnace oil quality.

“We have now possessed the technical know-how to improve quality of furnace oil and intend to carry out the project in low-capacity refineries and then other refineries of the country,” Salari added.

The project has been implemented by domestic companies in Bandar Abbas Oil Refinery, which produces 95,000 barrels of furnace oil per day and also in Shazand Imam Khomeini Refinery in a complicated process to upgrade standards of furnace oil, he mentioned.

Shiraz Oil Refining Company is currently producing 1.3 million barrels of furnace oil a day on average, the NIORDC CEO said, adding the MoU will be soon turned into a contract and its executive operation will start in SORC by mid-March 2024.

The deputy minister expressed hope that the implementation of the quality-enhancing project in the country’s refineries will help export furnace oil.

NIORDC will hopefully take another crucial step toward protecting the environment by desulfurizing the product, he concluded.
