Petropars: Iran to start extracting Balal gas in two years; output to rise to 500 mcf/d

SHANA (Tehran) – Iran will start extracting gas from Balal field within two years, said the managing director of Petropars Company on Sunday.

Talking to SHANA, Farrokh Alikhani added eight production wells are drilled and the field’s platform is installed before production starts.

According to the Petropars CEO, gas extraction from the field will ultimately reach 500 million cubic feet per day (mcf/d).

The Iranian Offshore Engineering and Construction Company (IOEC) is to construct the field’s platform and its jacket will be built by Iran Marine Industrial Company (SADRA), mentioned Alikhani, continuing that Petropars has finalized talks on construction of its pipeline with IOEC.

The jacket will be ready by mid-March 2024, he said and added drilling operations will begin after it is manufactured.

A descriptive well has been drilled and is now under study, which helps outline the plan for other wells, Alikhani explained.

Shared with Qatar, Balal gas field is located east of South Pars gas field in the Persian Gulf and 100km southwest of Lavan Island.
